AIMS TTP Cameroon co-organizes the 9th edition of the Forum for Elementary Geometry

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences Teacher Training Program in partnership with Mastercard Foundation on Friday the 2nd of May 2019, hosted the 9th edition of the Forum for Elementary Geometry (Forum de Géométrie Elémentaire (FOGEL) dubbed the FOGEL at Université Évangelique du Cameroun, Mbuo-Bandjoun.

The FOGEL is a regional mathematics teacher’s exchange where mathematics teachers from across a region come together to exchange experiences, hold training workshops, to meet a significant number of teachers for sensitization purpose and training. Since 2010, every year in February, the Western Delegation of the Ministry of Secondary Education and the Evangelical University of Cameroon (Université Evangélique du Cameroun (UEC) organize regular annual regional mathematics teacher’s exchanges for mathematics teachers from the West Region. These meetings bring together around 250 mathematics teachers, pedagogic inspectors for mathematics and some school principals to discuss, share experiences.

This year, the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences Teacher Training Program in partnership with Mastercard Foundation partnered up with this beautiful initiative and organized this 9th edition of the FOGEL 2019 welcoming approximately 24o mathematics teachers. Speaking on behalf of the Regional Delegate of Secondary Education, the Inspector Coordinator in charge of Sciences for the West Region, thanked AIMS for the beautiful, innovative and impactful program put in place that’ll be monumental to our country’s education and development. She also heartily thanked AIMS for organizing the 9th edition when all hope was lost. It is her wish that the participants give feedback about this seminar in their respective schools in hopes of impacting the learner who is beneficiaries of the latter. Sharing in this same line of thought was the participants’ representative who commended AIMS for a job well done, and for providing them with an invaluable resource, they’ll use to improve on their teaching and learning of Mathematics.

They also pleaded that the workshop is extended to a two or three-day event as there was so much knowledge to grasp in such a 6-hour window. It is important to note that the AIMS TTP premiered its pre-workshop online registration portals at this forum and the turn out was favorable. The general euphoria, ambiance, and quest for more information on AIMS’ programs was evident in a successful seminar.
